The Womanspace Counseling and Support Services (CSS) has operated since 1984 and is the only non-residential counseling program in Mercer County where victims of domestic violence and sexual assault can find counseling and advocacy that is specific to their needs. Clients receive an immediate response to their call for service. Counseling and Support Services are based on each individual’s needs. Counseling is available to assist English and Spanish-speaking clients regardless of ability to pay.
Womanspace CSS supports the greater Mercer County area. Our clients encompass all ages, socio-economic levels, ethnicities, genders and sexual orientations; and come from all economic backgrounds.
Womanspace CSS continues to be one of the few domestic and sexual violence support agencies to provide both short and long term individual counseling and group counseling to address immediate crises as well as short and long term issues related to domestic and sexual violence. Program staff members also provide advocacy by accompanying clients to various sites and provide information and referrals when needed.
Counseling includes crisis intervention, individual, family and group counseling for survivors of domestic and sexual violence and their families. The empowerment of women is encouraged through personal life planning that includes relationships, legal and safety issues.
Group counseling is a vital component of our program enabling us to serve a broader base of the community. Currently CSS offers three drop-in support groups, two in English and one in Spanish; a sexual assault survivor group, and a new group for domestic violence clients referred by DYFS. Childcare is available in the evenings for women who are attending a group. Group counselors utilize an empowerment model to support and validate the experiences and emotions of the participants.
Sexual Assault Counseling includes crisis intervention and individual, family and group counseling for victims and survivors of sexual assault. Assistance with the application to Victims of Crime Compensation Board is also available.
