    About the Home-Schooling Program:

    • When women and children come into shelter they are in crisis. The danger that brought them here could extend to where the children attend school. Often they face placing their children in a different school temporarily, which potentially adds on yet another level of stress for the children and mother. Womanspace wants to provide mothers an alternative option of home schooling.
    • We need volunteers to provide home schooling services and tutor children at the shelter. Educational volunteers should be retired certified teachers, student teachers and/or community volunteers who love to teach.
    • Volunteers would maintain communication with an Educational Coordinator who will oversee the home schooling process. After receiving training on the effects of domestic violence on children, volunteers must commit to a period of six months and will work on an as-needed basis, depending on the shelter clients' needs.
    • In looking to launch this new service for our clients, Womanspace is looking for funding. If you or your organization wish to assist with this important project, please contact Susan Klejst, Director of Development (sdk@womanspace.org).
