Counseling and Support Services are based on each individual’s needs. Counseling is available to assist English and Spanish-speaking clients regardless of ability to pay.

Domestic Violence Counseling includes crisis intervention, individual, family and group counseling for victims of domestic violence and their children. The empowerment of women is encouraged through personal life planning that includes relationships, legal and safety issues.


Support Groups

 

Women’s Drop-In Support Group

Your relationship IS NOT healthy if:

  • You are frightened by your partner’s temper
  • You are afraid to disagree with your partner
  • You have to justify every place you go and everything you do
  • Your partner puts you down or humiliates you
  • You are being hit, kicked, shoved and/or pushed by your partner
  • Your partner forces you to have sex
  • You don’t see family/friends because of your partner’s jealousy
  • Your partner has threatened to hurt you or himself/herself if you leave

This open group offers support and information on Monday evenings, 6pm - 7pm, and on Thursday afternoons, 1pm - 2pm, at the Counseling and Support Office. "Healthy Relationships" Women’s Therapy Group

  • Learn how to take care of yourself, even if you are in an unhealthy relationship
  • Learn how to emotionally detach from destructive relationships
  • Increase self-esteem
  • Learn self-acceptance
  • Connect with other women in a safe, supportive environment

Groups run for 12-week cycles. Individuals must be interviewed prior to coming to this group at the Counseling and Support Office. Call 609-394-2532 and ask to speak with a counselor for more information.

Mi Hermana, Mi Amiga (My Sister, My Friend)

Designed for women who speak Spanish:

  • An opportunity for women to meet in a safe place and discuss relationship issues
  • Education on issues related to violence within the family, including types of domestic violence and the impact on family members
  • Information on services available to victims of domestic violence (shelter, counseling, hotline and transitional housing)
  • How to apply for a restraining order and assistance with other legal matters

Tuesdays, 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the Counseling and Support Office. Call 609-394-2532 and ask to speak with a counselor for more information.


Sexual Assault Counseling includes crisis intervention and individual, family and group counseling for victims and survivors of sexual assault. Assistance with application to Victims of Crime Compensation Board and accompaniment to follow-up medical care and meetings with law enforcement are available.

  • Learn how to regain control
  • Discussions on trauma and trust

Court Advocacy

Victims of domestic violence are guided through the restraining order process at Mercer County Family Court with the assistance of Counselor Advocates. Call 609-571-4437 for information.

Legal Clinic

Volunteer attorneys who have been trained to work with women in crisis staff the Legal Clinic. The Clinic offers a one-time consultation on civil, criminal and family law matters related to domestic violence. Attorneys are available by appointment to provide you with 35 minutes of legal advice, because what you don’t know can hurt you. The fee is based on a sliding scale.

Community Workshops

Workshops empower clients to become more self-sufficient by exploring a variety of topics and providing information. These topics run from the practical to the thought provoking. Workshops also educate clients and the community on issues of empowerment, interpersonal relationships and personal life planning.
